Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

people in the service

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (also known as Eucharistic Ministers) assist with the distribution of Holy Communion at Masses on Sundays and Holy Days as well as with Ashes on Ash Wednesday. They also bring communion to the sick, homebound, and hospitalized. Eucharistic Ministers receive specific spiritual, theological, and practical preparation, and should show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated bread or wine.

Lectors

people in the service

Lectors (also known as Readers) are called to proclaim the readings from Sacred Scripture, with the exception of the Gospel. The Lector may also announce the intentions for the Universal Prayer, the responsorial before the Psalm and, in the absence of a psalmist, recite the Psalm between the readings.

Become A Eucharistic Minister

Like many responsibilities in the church, becoming a Eucharistic Minister must be a calling. A calling to defend, to serve, and share the consecrated host to those in need.

Become A Lector

Those who take on the ministry of Lector are presumed to be confirmed Catholics in good standing with the Church, active members of the parish, of good faith, eager to serve and willing to engage in ongoing formation.
